Bullying

Bullying is an imbalance of power, which involves ongoing physical or verbal mistreatment of another. It is usually seen as “the big kid picks on the smaller kid.” A bully is a person who frightens and bullies a weaker person. It can vary from racial discrimination to abuse or sexual harassment. The bullying can be physical, emotional, or mental abuse. It can also be direct or indirect.

According to cnn.com, a report finds that bullying and teasing tops the list of children's school trouble. The Kaiser Family Foundation and Nickelodeon asked 1,249 parents of children ages 8-15 about their problems. 74% of children 8-11 years old say teasing and bullying occur at their school more than smoking, drinking, drugs or sex. But as children get older, that number increased. Children ages 12-15 years old say that 86% teasing and bullying occurs more than abuse or sex. Both groups of children say that bullying is a "big problem" that ranks higher than anything else.

Bullies pick on kids because they have problems of their own either at home or in school. They like to bully children because they feel that they are gaining power and popularity. Sometimes bullying is a way for a person, to try and fit in with a certain group of people.

Usually a child is bullied because of his or her physical appearance or their smartness. It can also be because the child is quiet and doesn't communicate with others. The victims of the bullying can also be targeted because they cannot defend themselves.

Basically, bullying has affected many children in the world. It affected them physical, mentally and emotionally. Victims of bullying should seek help; either try to contact a teacher, a counselor, parents, or help organizations.
